When Agricultural Shows first started in the mid-eighteen hundreds, they provided not only the opportunity for farmers to show off their stock and skills, but a day out for all the family. And so a market grew up along side the show allowing competitors and spectators alike to browse and purchase all manner of wares. Indeed they became the very first “out-of-town” shopping centres!
To-day that tradition continues and is very much part of our Show at Hope.
There are about 80 sites available and the range of goods on for sale is extensive, ranging from cars to a needle, a duster to a bed-sheet.
Enough to keep our 8,000 or more visitors happily occupied for many hours!
The Sheep Dog Trials are on the Bank Holiday Monday and Tuesday. A sheep dog trial is the ultimate test of the ability of the shepherd and his dog to work together. The trial is a combination of several stages and competitors are given 9 minutes to complete it.
